The first is by getting water up to boiling temperature, which (while may be better for brewing), may leave you will less accuracy and will be harder to take test measurements from inside the kettle.<\/p>\n<p>An alternate way is using ice water, which is a more accurate way (from what I&#8217;ve read). I used the alternate approach of ice water here.<\/p>\n<p>Ensuring your valve is closed; begin by adding plenty of ice and water to pot. Let the temperature\u00a0stabilize for about five minutes.<\/p>\n<p>I brought my pot down to about 36 degrees Fahrenheit. I did not prepare\u00a0with enough ice, so I added various frozen items from my freezer.<\/p>\n<p>Near the kettle&#8217;s temperature probe or thermowall, find an open\u00a0spot to check the internal temperature with a thermometer. Both readings are within a couple of\u00a0degrees of each other &#8211; my internal check is at about 35.5 degrees and my kettle&#8217;s is at about 33 degrees.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_475\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-475\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/biabbrewing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/adjust-screw.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-475 \" src=\"https:\/\/biabbrewing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/adjust-screw-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"Adjusting the Screw\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/biabbrewing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/adjust-screw-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/biabbrewing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/adjust-screw-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/biabbrewing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/adjust-screw.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-475\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Adjusting the Screw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After I was close to freezing temperature, I needed to adjust the adjustment screw behind my kettle&#8217;s temperature gauge to ensure accuracy, leaving my final\u00a0reading at 33 degrees.<\/p>\n<p>While I\u2019m not sure if I have really gotten down to 32 degrees to call it freezing, I\u2019m\u00a0going to call it calibrated and follow what the digital probe says because both readings match.<\/p>\n<p>As a side check, I pulled out a bottle I kept in the pot with ice attached to it and stuck the probe in to see\u00a0how accurate my reading was.
